Margarida Dias, researcher at Biomolecular Engineering Lab was awarded with a Royal Society Chemistry Research Fund grant (R22-1009764370) for 4000 libras during one year.
The awarded project aims to advance the manufacturing methodologies of peptide-based materials, namely spinning of sub-micro peptide fibers. These materials allow access to an important chemical diversity in amino-acids and find application in production of flexible substrates, relevant for sensing. As well, they are a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based plastics, since they are biodegradable and biocompatible.
RSC Research Fund grant supports early career researchers and RSC members in an exploratory project. This is an exciting opportunity to develop new ideas and concepts, which can strengthen researchers' preliminary data essential to apply for other grants.
