The new UCIBIO-Porto facility, the Culture Collection of Porto, located at the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Porto (FFUP), will be launched on the 27th of October, the Day of the Microbiology Laboratory at FFUP. CCP was founded in 2021 by Luísa Peixe, registered and recognized by the World Federation of Culture Collections (WFCC) as the collection number 1252.
The Culture Collection of Porto (CCP) is a non-profit, Portuguese biological resource center for the preservation, systematic investigation, provision, distribution, and valorisation of microbial resources and biodiversity. CCP is a service and research collection that provides support to R&D activities of Portuguese and foreign researchers. CCP mantains specific expertise in clinical, food, water and environmental microbiology, microbial taxonomy, phylogeny, species description, genomics, proteomics, infrared spectroscopy, and antimicrobial resistance.
Luísa Peixe, leader of the BacT_Drugs@UCIBIO research lab and CCP director, highlights that “the collection aims to guarantee access to biological and genetic materials of taxonomic and clinical interest (mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and bacterial virulence, etc.), as well as for the prospection of bioproducts”.
