The aim of Nitrogen Sensing Solutions, founded by Gabriela Almeida and recently incubated at Startup Leira, is to revolutionize the way that fish farmers and environmental agencies control the levels of nitrogen-based nutrients in aquatic ecosystems.
The start-up's business idea is based on a multi-parameter sensor for aquaculture plants. Through on-site measurement of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels, the innovative sensor eliminates the necessity for off-site laboratory analysis, offering swift and cost-effective assessments directly within each monitored tank.
The project was developed by researchers from UCIBIO-NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) and the Egas Moniz, School of Health and Science.
