International day of women and girls in science

Today, 11 February, UCIBIO joins the global community in celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2026.

This year, the United Nations has set a forward-looking theme: “Synergizing AI, Social Science, STEM and Finance: Building Inclusive Futures for Women and Girls.” It highlights how integrating these four pillars can accelerate sustainable development and close the gender gap.

At UCIBIO, this resonates with our mission. We understand that science does not exist in a vacuum; the impact of our research, from molecular discoveries to health and bioeconomy applications, relies on a diverse ecosystem.

As the global community gathers under the banner "From Vision to Impact," we acknowledge that closing the gender gap is not just a matter of fairness, but a necessity for scientific excellence. While women make up less than one-third of the world’s researchers, at UCIBIO they represent 71% of our scientists, demonstrating that their contributions are essential to the quality and relevance of science.

Today, we celebrate the women of UCIBIO who are redefining STEM. By ensuring that the "vision" of equality leads to the "impact" of full participation, we are building a stronger scientific community for everyone.
