UCIBIO has once again been awarded the highest rating of “Excellent”, obtaining 5 out of 5 points across all evaluation criteria in the provisional results of the 2023/2024 R&D Units Evaluation, recently published by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT IP).
In this evaluation cycle, UCIBIO was ranked as the leading research unit in the Biological Sciences, Biodiversity and Ecosystems panel, and was the only unit in this panel to receive the maximum score in all categories assessed. This distinction reflects UCIBIO’s continued dedication to scientific excellence and societal impact, further consolidating its position as a national reference in research.
The evaluation focused on the scientific and technological activities conducted by the R&D Units from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2023, as well as on their objectives, strategic approach, activity plan, and organizational structure for the 2025–2029 period.
The assessment process involved more than 315 international evaluators, grouped into 29 disciplinary panels, selected for their recognized expertise and scientific experience. These experts represented academic and research institutions across 35 countries.
