UCIBIO integrates the approved Associate Laboratory, Institute for Health and Bioeconomy, i4HB, together with two other research units, Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB) and Institute for System Engineering and Computers-Microsystems and Nanotechnologies (INESC.MN), generating synergies to boost the capacities for success in competitive areas of research and innovation.
i4HB aims to maximize its support to public policies, while increasing its national and international impact in scientific productivity, advanced training and translation to society. i4HB defined 4 Thematic Lines (TL) of research, taking into account that the foremost global challenges related to Health and Sustainability require interdisciplinary solutions in areas where i4HB has expertise, infrastructures and the network to lead internationally. These 4 Thematic Lines are: Platforms for Drug Development and Discovery (TL1); Advanced Diagnostics and Therapies (TL2); Human Health and Environmental Safety (TL3) and Bioresources Valorization and Bioproducts Production (TL4). The pioneering vision, focused objectives and resourceful implementation plan will catapult i4HB to the national and international forefront of science.
The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, FCT I.P., announced on 24th February the results of the Call for Associate Laboratory Status, in which 40 institutions were awarded with Associate Laboratory Status.
