The recent study led by researchers from the Toxicology Research Lab at UCIBIO - FFUP, in collaboration with the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto (IPO Porto), was recently highlighted by ASPIC – the Portuguese Association for Cancer Research. Published in the journal Metabolomics, this research work provides novel insights into the metabolic reprogramming of Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC), contributing to a deeper understanding of the disease and opening new avenues for diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
In addition, the research revealed statistically significant correlations with specific metabolites found in the urine of these patients. “This finding is very promising and suggests that urine analysis may provide a non-invasive approach to the detection of Renal Cell Carcinoma”, explains Filipa Amaro, first author of the paper and PhD student at the Toxicoloy Research Lab.
This work represents a significant step forward in understanding metabolic reprogramming in RCC and underscores the relevance of metabolomics in identifying biomarkers with potential clinical application.
