At UCIBIO there are 17 students participating in training actions and research projects, in the scope of the “Verão com Ciência” program launched by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), in collaboration with Direção Geral do Ensino Superior (DGES).
At UCIBIO-NOVA, 15 fellowships were funded for the “Summer School UCIBIO-NOVA - Initiation to Research in Applied Biomolecular Sciences”, starting on 27th of July. The aim of the UCIBIO-NOVA Summer School is to introduce students to scientific research practices through the development of an experimental project in the area of Applied Biomolecular Sciences. The coordinator of the UCIBIO NOVA Summer School, Eurico Cabrita, explains that “our aim is to give the opportunity to the students to develop skills in science communication, critical analysis of results, critical thinking and teamwork, and simultaneously, focus on scientific training based on experimentation. The research projects that will be developed at UCIBIO-NOVA by the 15 students are presented here.
At UCIBIO-Porto, two fellowships were funded for the “Summer School Interdisciplinary Approaches to Control Infectious Diseases and Cancer”. The school is divided in 4 thematic modules that will encompass distinct aspects associated to the control of infectious diseases and cancer providing an overview of the main challenges and recent advances. The research projects that will be developed at UCIBIO-Porto by the two students are: “Improving differentiation strategies of Klebsiella pneumoniae strains”, under the supervision of Ângela Novais and Luísa Peixe, and “Exploring Gardnerella role in OAB syndrome”, under the supervision of Teresa Gonçalves and Luísa Peixe.
