Tiago Monteiro has been distinguished with a young research award 2014, “Estímulo à Investigação”, by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, with the project “Redox chemistry of nitrite in the brain”, under co-supervision of Gabriela Almeida, researcher at UCIBIO (Assistant Professor at Egas Moniz Cooperativa de Ensino Superior), and Rui Barbosa, researcher at Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (Assistant Professor at Faculty of Pharmacy / University of Coimbra).
“Estímulo à Investigação” program aims to stimulate creativity and quality in scientific research. Every year applications with research projects are distinguished based on “high creativity potential in scientific areas in the scope of the basic courses: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Earth and Space Science”, according to Gulbenkian. In the Chemistry area, this year has been specifically dedicated to Chemistry and the Brain, as 2014 has been designated the European Year of the Brain.
