BioData.pt Roadshow at UCIBIO: Empowering Researchers in Bioinformatics and Data Management In January 2025, UCIBIO hosted the BioData.pt Roadshow, an event focused on empowering and engaging researchers in bioinformatics and data management in the life and health sciences. The initiative featured presentations by Inês Chaves, Executive Director of BioData.pt and Deputy Head of ELIXIR-PT, and Luciana Peixoto, Head of Communities, Communication, and Events at BioData.pt and Training Coordinator of ELIXIR-PT.    
International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2025 at UCIBIO The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated annually on 11 February, is an initiative led by UNESCO and UN-Women in collaboration with institutions and civil society partners. This day serves as a crucial platform to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. Gender equality remains a global priority for UNESCO, and fostering young girls' education and their ability to contribute meaningfully to scientific discourse are essential drivers of development and peace. 
World Cancer Day: UCIBIO’s commitment to cancer research World Cancer Day is an international day observed every 4th of February  to raise awareness about cancer, encourage its prevention, and mobilise action to address the global cancer epidemic. The day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and was established in the year 2000.    In Portugal, cancer is the second leading cause of mortality and one of the primary cause of potential years of life lost. 
Filipe Natalio awarded an ERC Proof of Concept Grant for sustainable textile innovation Filipe Natalio, leader of the Material Farming Laboratory at UCIBIO-NOVA FCT, was distinguished with a European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept grant with the project BIODENIM: “Bio-Engineered Dyeing Innovations for Sustainable Cotton Textiles”.
